a personal Guide
for women to your style in the stars

Are you the perfect woman?
by Pat Harris PhD, MSc., DFAstrol

Forget all about what weight you are, whether you are too tall or too small, too thin or too wide. It’s not about your outline (i.e., your silhouette); it’s more about your ratio.

What do you mean “Ratio”?

This is a clever little mathematical formula for working out how just how attractive the curves that you have (regardless of whether your thin or fat, small or tall) actually are, and how desirable you are because of them.

The Independent (daily UK newspaper) discussed in article on 16th January 2008 (p3) what this ration could do for you based on what was said in the book “The Psychology of Physical Attraction” by V Swami, and A Furnham (Routledge publishers 2007), and the research findings in a paper titled “The relative contributions of waist-to-hip ratio and body mass index to judgements of attractiveness” by Jan M. B. Wilson; Dean A. Tripp; Fred J. Boland (published in the journal Sexualities, Evolution and Gender Vol. 7 Issue 3, December 2005 pp245-267).

Some of the most apparently desirable women in recent history – Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren among them, and in more modern times, Scarlett Johansson – have one thing in common, they all possess the kind of curves that make them extremely attractive.

This attractiveness is not dependent on how thin or fat you are, the Independent article says. It is where you score on the waist hip ratio measurement that will tell you that.

So how does it work?

You can use inches or centimetres as long you stick with one measurement and don’t try to measure you waist in one system and your hips in another.
So, measure your waist.
Then measure your hips.
Then divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement.
A result that is either 0.7 or 0.8 gives you a ratio that puts you in the in the “perfect zone” as these ratios are deemed the most attractive. The attractiveness factor is believed to decrease as the WHR increases.

Aaaghh! Don’t ask me to diet!

No, you don’t have to. If you are a bit over 0.8 you don’t have to rush out for a diet to lose weight plan as you can create this curvy look by cinching in your waist with a belt. The Victorians certainly knew how to do this during the age when corsetry dominated the fashion scene.

So, how can fashion help?

Just find yourself a decorative belt, a well-tailored feminine waistcoat, bodice, or a lovely lacy corset (worn inside or outside your garments!) and watch what happens! But any top, skirt or dress that is designed to frame your waist and balance your hips will certainly do the trick. If you get it right, weight is not an issue. It’s really not a case of “Does my bum look big in this” but more one of “Does my waist make my bum look big in this?” A balanced WHR of 0.7 or 0.8 should take care of it whether it’s achieved through diet or clever dressing.

And what’s this got to do with astrology?

The clever dressing approach should work for everyone whatever star sign you are. However, it could be good news for the comfort eaters of the Zodiac, Taurus, who find it increasingly more difficult to keep the weight off, as they get older. Cancer, too, likes to comfort eat and can also have problems with weight fluctuation due to water retention so will be glad to know about the “WHR fashion effect”. It should also be encouraging news for Sagittarius and Pisces, who love a big feast with good wine and good company but who, like Taurus and Cancer, find it harder to move the pounds as the years pile on. And all you Scorpios out there will be getting out your belts and bodices before you finish reading this! But every sign should enjoy experimenting with fashion in order to test out how well the WHR really works!

And, who knows? If you get the look just by dressing well and, therefore feeling good, you might be so inspired that you want to get it for real through losing a few pounds, too!
